Inlay
The majority of the guitars I build are not inlayed beyond my rosettes. Many feel that the guitar is a work of art unto itself, and I agree. However, for the bold, the world of inlay is wide open. Custom inlay work is very much a collaboration between the client and myself. Design, inlay materials, and a rough cost are all negotiated at the start of a project. I sketch and refine a design idea many times before I am left with a final master pattern from which to work. Figured woods and shells are carefully selected with an attention to the grain of the material and how it relates to the design, then cut and inlayed entirely by hand. Of course there is far more involved in creating a fine inlay than this paragraph describes, and each unique project requires a slightly different approach. On custom inlay requests, I photo document the progress of how the inlay comes together to share with the client. The result is extremely personal, adding a different scenes of ownership between player and guitar. All of my custom inlay is one of a kind, unique works, and carries my style of artistry and attention to the detail. You can find many other examples of my inlay work throughout the gallery pages.
