Although the flamenco guitar is a specialized instrument, evolved to accommodate a specific style of music, it brings a unique element to other types of play as well. South American, Jazz, Classical, and Modern, the flamenco guitar brings its own fire and personality to any music style.
Each flamenco guitar I build embodies my concept of what a flamenco guitar should be and do. Aside from being extremely well crafted, the guitar’s voice has many traditional qualities to live up to. Primarily, the guitar must be “alive,” it has to “POP.” Some say that a good flamenco guitar should have a very short sustain, I believe that the initial attack should simply be dramatically louder than the corresponding sustain. Flamenco is not “all go - all the time.” When the tempo slows, there must be a carrying note to fill the space. The attack should be commanding, the trebles need to pierce the air and ears, and the bass should “growl” with an uneven reverberation. To accommodate rapid fret work and produce a “rasping grate” for the rhythmic rasgueo, response and separation must be extremely quick and crisp, A flamenco guitar must have a light weight, thin body to attain a quick response, while being physically balanced and comfortable to the player. This mentality coupled with my unique style of hand building is what makes my flamenco guitars some of the world’s finest.
